Course overview

The preparation course will prepare candidates to demonstrate the required level of competence in the EISA in the following occupational tasks:

  • Registering a taxpayer and finalising income tax, payroll tax and VAT returns.
  • Reviewing or auditing tax balances.
  • Mediating tax disputes.
  • Writing tax opinions.

The preparation course has been developed by former EISA examiners, markers and moderators and has been designed in phases as follows:

Fundamentals and compliance phase

Knowledge summaries will be provided to course participants in order to recap the core principles of each topic. Participants will be encouraged to integrate knowledge and practice the application of knowledge by working through past EISA papers and other case studies. This ensures that gaps in knowledge are identified and addressed. Various releases of practice question packs and past papers are scheduled throughout the course.

Integration and advisory phase

In this phase, the focus is on integrating knowledge in advisory and controversy questions. Detailed guidance will be provided to course participants on the methodology, exam technique and best practice to apply in these questions. Course participants will be required to complete and submit advisory and controversy questions as part of this phase. Submissions will be marked and feedback provided by markers on improvements necessary. Learning is supported through online videos, simulations and study guides.

A compulsory mock exam will be scheduled for all course participants. The mock exam is a two-day event and simulated under the EISA exam conditions. The mock exam is marked and individualised feedback provided. Each candidate will receive one-on-one feedback on their problem areas, knowledge gaps identified by markers, suggestions on exam technique improvements necessary.

Q&A support

Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to post any questions in a Q&A forum and answers will be provided by experienced lecturers timeously. Participants will also be invited to live virtual Q&A webinars where the opportunity is given for questions to be answered real-time.

The academic and practical skills component of this preparatory course is delivered on The Tax Faculty's virtual iLearnTax campus via integrated diagnostics, tailored online learning, virtual classroom interventions, live lecturers, mock exams and specific individual feedback.
